Lonely Planet declares Zadar one of the world’s top cities for 2019

Zadar, Croatia has been named one of the top cities in the world for travellers in 2019 by world-leading travel authority Lonely Planet. The city receives the accolade in Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2019, the highly anticipated annual collection of the best travel destinations, trends, journeys and experiences to have in the year ahead.

Zadar has risen from the ashes of its war-ridden past and blossomed into a spirited cosmopolitan city ,” where travellers can discover “ cool bars and laidback cafes, ancient Roman ruins, innovative museums and rustic, trattoria-style restaurants ,” explains Lonely Planet.

Unmissable experiences in the city recommended by Lonely Planet’s experts include:

- Spending a balmy afternoon on Zadar’s waterfront promenade soaking up the melodic tones of the Sea Organ, which uses ocean waves to create mellifluous tunes.

- Taking the world’s shortest ferry line across the 71 metres of Zadar’s harbour

Tom Hall, Lonely Planet’s Editorial Director, said:

“While many visitors to Croatia are drawn to Split or Dubrovnik, Zadar reaps the benefit of sitting just outside the limelight. Zadar’s small stature instantly allows travellers to connect to the local life and culture. The energy and bustle of the city are wonderfully juxtaposed with the ancient history hewn into the landscape. The city offers sweeping Adriatic vistas, sun-speckled forests and pockets of golden sand. This is a corner of paradise with attitude – and travellers are bound to fall in love with it.”

Zadar features ninth on the list of top cities for 2019.
